Loctite® 638™ is designed for the bonding of cylindrical fitting parts, particularly where bond gaps can approach 0.25 mm and where maximum strength at room temperature is required. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces and prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration. Loctite® 638™ provides robust curing performance. It not only works on active metals (e.g. mild steel) but also on passive substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces. The product offers high temperature performance and oil tolerance. It tolerates minor surface contaminations from various oils, such as cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion and protection fluids. Typical applications include locking bushings and sleeves into housings and on shafts.

Directions for useFor Assembly
1. For best results, clean all surfaces (external and internal) with a Loctite® cleaning solvent and allow to dry.
2. To accelerate cure speed or where large gaps are present, use activator and allow to dry.
3. For Slip Fitted Assemblies, apply adhesive around the leading edge of the pin and the inside of the collar and use a rotating motion during assembly to ensure good coverage.
4. For Press Fitted Assemblies, apply adhesive thoroughly to both bond surfaces and assemble at high press on rates.
5. For Shrink Fitted Assemblies, the adhesive should be coated onto the part to produce a smooth, even film of material. If heating the hub for assembly, coat the pin. If the pin is to be cooled for assembly, coat the hub. If both heating and cooling is to be done, apply material to cooled part. Avoid condensation on cooled parts.
6. Parts should not be disturbed until sufficient handling strength is achieved.

For Disassembly
1. Remove with standard hand tools.
2. If needed, apply localized heat to the assembly to approximately 250 °C. Disassemble while hot.
3. If this temperature is not possible, heat as much as possible and use mechanical aids

Clean-up 1. Cured product can be removed with a combination of soaking  solvent and mechanical abrasion such as a wire brush

General Information
This product is not recommended for use in pure oxygen and/or oxygen rich systems and should not be selected as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidizing materials. For safe handling information on this product, consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS). Where aqueous washing systems are used to clean the surfaces before bonding, it is important to check for compatibility of the washing solution with the adhesive. In some cases these aqueous washes can affect the cure and performance of the adhesive. This product is not normally recommended for use on plastics (particularly thermoplastic materials where stress cracking of the plastic could result). Users are recommended to confirm compatibility of the product with such substrates.

Directions for Use: For Assembly
1. For best results, clean all surfaces (external and internal) with a LOCTITE® cleaning solvent and allow to dry.
2. If the cure speed is too slow, use appropriate activator. Please see the Cure Speed vs. Activator graph for reference. Allow the activator to dry when needed.
3. Shake the product thoroughly before use. 4. To prevent the product from clogging in the nozzle, do not allow the tip to touch metal surfaces during application.

Red, 1-part, flowable smooth, acetoxy silicone paste sealant.

Loctite® SI 596 is a red, 1-part, flowable smooth, acetoxy silicone paste sealant. It forms a tough, flexible, waterproof, oil-resistant silicone rubber bond. It is also used as a sealant and adhesive in industrial furnaces, ovens, boilers, exhaust stacks, high temperature ducting and heating elements in electrical appliances.
  • Typically used in applications with an operating range of -50°C to +250°C
  • Resists ageing, weathering and thermal cycling without hardening, shrinking or cracking

How to : Step by Step Guide
1. Preparation - Cleaning

Ensure all surfaces are cleaned to remove any residual adhesives, oil and grease. Use Loctite® SF 7200/790 for easier removal of old adhesive residues. Loctite SF 7063/7064/7070 is recommended for general surface cleaning and degreasing prior to bonding.

2. Application

Use supplied nozzle and, where appropriate, cut the end to give the desired bead size. Dispense adhesive bead(s) directly onto the surface to be bonded or sealed; parts should be assembled immediately to prevent partial curing and shimming. Prevent the assembled parts from moving during cure. For large areas where both substrates are impermeable to moisture, do not cover the complete bonding area with adhesive - allow some gaps for moisture to penetrate the bond line. Any remaining gaps can be filled once the adhesive has cured.

Hints

Hold the nozzle at a 45° angle and pull along the bondline while applying dispense pressure. Test on a piece of scrap to find the appropriate speed that gives the required bead size. After assembling the parts, wipe away product squeezed out of the joint with a gloved finger or a finishing tool. Leave the nozzle on the cartridge after use to act as a sealing cap.

LOCTITE® SI 596 RED is used for gasketing and sealing applications for both plant maintenance and small, medium, and large-sized OEM. It is specially formulated to meet the low silicone volatiles requirements of the automotive industry for 315°C flange sealants. As a formed-in-place gasket/sealant, LOCTITE® SI 596 RED has been designed to give outstanding performance in typical automotive gasketing applications including valve covers, rocker covers, oil pans, water pumps, end seals, intake manifolds, and rear axle housings. This product is also used as a sealant and adhesive for assembly and repair of industrial furnaces, ovens, boilers, exhaust stacks, high temperature ducting, and heating elements in electrical appliances. This product is typically used in applications up to 315 °C.
